The Izh Hybrid Motorcycle Concept is a sharp, forward-looking study by Igor Chak
that combines a large internal-combustion engine with electric drive in an unusually
compact package. Its white, angular bodywork gives the machine a distinctly futuristic
identity, while the exposed mechanical areas and broad rear tire keep it recognisably
motorcycle-shaped rather than turning it into a fully enclosed vehicle.

## A modern interpretation of the Izh name

Chak’s concept takes its name from Izh, the Soviet motorcycle manufacturer, and
looks back to the 1929 Izh-1 as its stated point of reference. The earlier motorcycle
reportedly used a transversely mounted 1,200cc V-twin, a three-speed gearbox and
a stamped-steel frame. Rather than reproduce that layout literally, the 2012 proposal
treats the old machine as a visual and engineering prompt for a much more advanced
hybrid design.

The supplied renderings show a tightly wrapped front section, a sharply rising tail
and a large lower fairing that visually connects the front wheel to the engine area.
The narrow-looking waist contrasts with the substantial rear tire, while the raised
seat and exposed twin rear shock absorbers give the concept a deliberately technical
appearance. A small Izh emblem on the side panel is one of the few traditional touches
in an otherwise highly stylised design.

## Two power sources, one ambitious layout

According to the original description, the concept uses an 850cc V-twin alongside
a brushless electric motor rated at 60 kW. The electric unit is described as being
integrated into the rear wheel and paired with a compact two-speed gearbox. That
arrangement would make the rear wheel more than a simple final-drive destination:
it would become a central part of the hybrid system’s packaging.

The reported figures are ambitious. The V-twin is listed at 140 hp, while the combined
system was said to target approximately 80 mpg, or 2.94 l/100km. Those numbers belong
to the concept’s published specification rather than a verified production motorcycle,
and the project should be understood as a design proposal rather than a documented
road test or completed commercial model.

## Electronics at the centre

Chak’s proposal also imagines a motorcycle with an unusually extensive electronic
safety and communication suite. The description includes dual airbags, radar-based
proximity monitoring, a forward-facing camera with night vision, blind-spot sensors,
traction control, ABS and a headlight system linked to an accelerometer.

A three-dimensional touchscreen display was intended to provide augmented-reality
information, with sport, comfort and manual riding modes. GPS, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-
Fi and 4G connectivity were also listed. Together, these features place the Izh
concept closer to a technology demonstrator than a conventional custom motorcycle:
its visual drama is matched by an attempt to rethink how propulsion, rider assistance
and information could occupy the same machine.
