The Ducati 999 Evo-R Evoluzione takes an already serious 999R and pushes its character
toward lightweight, race-bred precision. In the supplied images, the black bodywork,
single round headlamp and exposed red trellis frame give it a more concentrated
appearance than the standard motorcycle, while the compact tail and deep fairing
keep the design unmistakably Ducati.

## A sharper visual identity

Evoluzione Cyclesports’ most obvious change is the front end. Removing the high
beam leaves a single lamp beneath the dark nose, simplifying the face without turning
it into a stripped-down streetfighter. Conventional mirrors were also replaced by
small bar-end units. They clean up the silhouette, although the original report
acknowledged the obvious compromise in rearward visibility.

The black finish makes the red frame and gold-colored fork hardware stand out. From
the side, the motorcycle has a purposeful, almost closed-in profile: the fairing
dominates the lower half, while the narrow seat and raised tail expose just enough
of the chassis to show that this is a functional performance exercise rather than
a cosmetic makeover.

## Weight removed where it matters

According to the period report, Evoluzione fitted a carbon-fiber fuel cell and BST
carbon-fiber wheels, replacing the 999R’s standard tank and forged-aluminum hoops.
Those are significant locations for weight reduction. Less mass at the wheels can
make direction changes feel more immediate, while a lighter tank can reduce the
effort required to move the motorcycle through a corner.

The reported equipment list also included an Öhlins R/T fork with Superbike-specification
valving, an Öhlins rear shock with a titanium spring, Brembo billet racing calipers
and BrakeTech Ceramic Matrix Composite rotors. A full LeoVince 57/60 titanium exhaust
was fitted in place of the catalyst-equipped system. These choices support the Evo-
R’s central idea: improve response and control rather than simply add visual drama.

## Engine performance, as reported

The 999R’s Ducati Corse engine was reportedly left internally standard, with its
big titanium valves, titanium connecting rods and 104mm forged pistons retained.
The supplied test account claimed 155 rear-wheel horsepower at 10,500 rpm after
the exhaust change, compared with 139 horsepower for the engine in its earlier configuration.
Those are historical test figures, not independently verified current specifications.

Shorter overall gearing, an Evoluzione throttle and revised clutch hardware were
described as making the motorcycle easier to exploit. The report characterized the
power delivery as strong but manageable, with the engine becoming particularly serious
above 7,000 rpm rather than delivering an abrupt hit.

## A costly, focused proposition

The same account gave the completed motorcycle a reported wet weight of 399 pounds
with one gallon of fuel and a period build price of $65,000. Its appeal was not
based on one spectacular component. The lightweight wheels, suspension, braking
system, gearing and engine breathing were intended to work as one package.

That is what makes the Ducati 999 Evo-R Evoluzione interesting today as a custom
superbike reference. It preserves the original 999’s aerodynamic, mechanical character
while concentrating the design around lighter steering, stronger braking and a more
purposeful track-derived feel.
